Human Placenta-Derived Adherent Cells Prevent Bone Loss, Stimulate Bone Formation, and Suppress Growth of Multiple Myeloma in Bone 
Placenta-derived adherent cells (PDAC) are mesenchymal-like stem cells isolated from postpartum human placenta. Researchers evaluated the antimyeloma therapeutic potential, in vivo survival, and trafficking of PDAC in the SCID-rab model of medullary myeloma-associated bone loss. [Stem Cells]

Adherent, colony-forming, fibroblastic cells were isolated from human bone marrow aspirates, from patients undergoing knee arthroplasties, and the mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) phenotype characterized by flow cytometry. Afterward, cells were seeded onto electrospun polycaprolactone nanofiber meshes and cultured in a multichamber flow perfusion bioreactor to determine their ability to produce cartilagineous extracellular matrix.
