A Genetic Platform to Model Sarcomagenesis from Primary Adult Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Researchers developed a novel platform to screen and quickly identify genes and pathways responsible for adult mesenchymal stem cells transformation, modeled undifferentiated sarcoma in vivo, and, ultimately, tested the efficacy of targeting the identified oncopathways. [Cancer Discov] Abstract

IL-6/STAT3 Signaling Pathway Contributes to Chondrogenic Differentiation of Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells were cultured by pellet culture system in a medium containing TGF-β3. Chondrogenic differentiation was detected by cartilage matrix accumulation and chondrogenic marker gene expression. [Arthritis Rheumatol] Abstract

Engineered Adenoviruses Combine Enhanced Oncolysis with Improved Virus Production by Mesenchymal Stromal Carrier Cells
Scientists show that an Ad5/3 chimeric oncolytic adenovirus capsid, containing the adenovirus serotype 3 cell-binding domain, strongly increases the entry into human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells and into established and primary pancreatic cancer cells. [Int J Cancer] Abstract

Bone Marrow Stromal Mesenchymal Cells Induce Down Regulation of CD20 Expression on B-CLL: Implications for Rituximab Resistance in CLL
Researchers investigated whether mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) may regulate the CD20 expression on chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL). For this purpose, B cells from CLL patients were isolated and co-cultured on MSC. B-CLL cells were collected from B-CLL/MSC co-cultures and examined for their expression of CD20. Evaluation of the Therapeutic Effects of Conditioned Media from Mesenchymal Stem Cells in a Rat Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw-Like Model
Scientists showed that mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-conditioned media (CM) has protected rat MSCs and rat osteoclasts. MSC-CM enhanced the expression of osteogenic-related genes and neovascularization-related genes by real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction analysis in in vitro study. Growth Factor and Ultrasound-Assisted Bioreactor Synergism for Human Mesenchymal Stem Cell Chondrogenesis
Scientists hypothesized that a combination of ultrasound at 5.0 MHz and transforming growth factor-β3 induces human mesenchymal stem cell differentiation to chondrocytes. [J Tissue Eng] Full Article

MicroRNAs-141 and 200a Regulate the SVCT2 Transporter in Bone Marrow Stromal Cells
The authors investigated the impact of microRNA (miR)-141 and miR-200a on sodium dependent vitamin C transporter 2 (SVCT2) expression. They found that mouse bone marrow stromal cells expressed miR-141 and miR-200a and repressed SVCT2 expression at the functional level by targeting the 3′-untranslated region of mRNA.
